A Little Vacation Time

The kids and I got back this week from visiting Bill in Norfolk.  He's been there since the first part of April and we thought we'd take another quick visit up there after school let out for summer break.  We've learned over the years how to squeeze a lot of fun into a little time and this visit was no exception.  Bill still had classes during the week so the kids and I ventured out on our own and spent some beach time on one of the many-many Navy bases there.  We also visited Williamsburg one afternoon too.  The kids had a great time being transported back to the Colonial days.  The last time we visited there was when Emma was 1 year old.  She especially loved it since she had read the American Girl Felicity series probably 5 times in the past and the story is set in colonial Williamsburg.

I think that this log was being carved out to be a feeding trough.  It was in the farm area.

Cody was helping cut boards here.

Here the kids were driving me crazy complaining that it was too hot and I'd had enough.  A little attitude adjustment never hurt anybody.  Ha Ha

The kids were being taught how bricks were made.  They had fun walking around in the clay pit.

Later in the week, we took a road trip up to DC.  We had the best time!!  We visited our neighbors from when we lived there 12 years ago.  We did dinner at one of our favorite BBQ places (Dixie Bones) with them and then headed back to the old neighborhood to hang out for a while.  Our neighbors, Dan and Sharon, were like grandparents to Emma so it was a treat for them to get to see her and also meet Cody.  We also got to see another one of our favorite neighbors ~ Patty.

On Saturday, we met Bill's sister Julie, her husband Brad, and our cute niece Delilah down on the National Mall.  We saw many of the monuments and had a great time catching up with Julie and her family.

This was from the World War II Memorial.

My favorite has always been the Lincoln Memorial.

On Sunday before we headed back to Norfolk, we visited the Air Force Memorial.

And our last stop was at the Arlington National Cemetery.

Now we are back at home enjoying our lazy days.  Looking forward to Bill getting home now in one week...just in time for Father's Day.  We are counting down the days.
