When we received Fu Xing's information, the name given to him when he arrived at the orphanage was Chen Fu Xing.
Chen means: to explain, display, exhibit
Fu means: blessing, good fortune, bliss
Xing means: pattern, mold, model
Some other translations that we found also had Fu Xing as Lucky Star.
In the Asian culture, the last name is listed first. Chen is considered the family name and comes from the orphanage that he was taken to. The second part of the name and last part are often combined to form the name they go by. Thus....Fu Xing.
We thought it was so appropriate that Fu means blessing.
Names are important to me. When naming Emma and Cody, Bill and I put a lot of thought into what their names would be. We wanted their names to represent people who we love and have a great respect for.
After much thought and discussion, we have decided on a name for our little Fu Xing. We wanted to give him an American first name and then keep his given Ch*nese name as the middle name.
This precious little boy is going to be
Hudson Fuxing Spangenthal
Hudson Taylor was an British missionary that spent most of his life serving the Chinese people for the sake of Christ. The following is a little background info on him.
James Hudson Taylor (Chinese: 戴德生) (21 May 1832 – 3 June 1905), was a British Protestant Christian missionary to China, and founder of the China Inland Mission (CIM) (now OMF International). Taylor spent 51 years in China. The society that he began was responsible for bringing over 800 missionaries to the country who began 125 schools and directly resulted in 18,000 Christian conversions, as well as the establishment of more than 300 stations of work with more than 500 local helpers in all eighteen provinces.
Taylor was known for his sensitivity to Chinese culture and zeal for evangelism.
A very dear friend, Dallas Caldwell, was who suggested the name to me and I loved it right away. What a great legacy name. I hope that someday little Hudson will be proud of the meaning behind his name.
We love you little Hudson Fuxing!! I just love saying that!!
(by the way....isn't that picture just crazy cute??!!)
